Simple Tips for Transitioning From Summer to Fall

I hope you all had a wonderful summer, spending time with friends and family, and enjoying those warm rays of sunshine! Summer is winding down which makes me think of all of the changes that come with fall. Whether you have been awaiting the cooler weather, or dreading it, fall is on it's way. And with the changing of the seasons brings inevitable changes with our minds and bodies, too.

The days are getting cooler and shorter, and you may begin to experience a dip in energy, a little more spaciness in your thoughts, or a bit of stiffness in your joints. You're not alone! The good news is that a few simple tweaks can help you transition between these seasons with minimal effort. Below I address a few common problems you might face, and some quick & easy tips to help you through them seemlessly.

Stiff joints and achy muscles as the weather cools? Start and end your day with some gentle stretching or yoga. Think slow movements like Cat-Cow or easy twists. Also, treat yourself to a warm bath with Epsom salts to relax those muscles and ease stiffness.

Feeling sluggish as the days get shorter? Setting a consistent sleep schedule (yes, even on the weekends) will help keep your energy levels up. Also, try incorporating gentle stretching and deep breathing into your morning routine to help you wake up naturally.

Mood dips or scattered thoughts? Try taking a brisk walk outdoors to boost your mood and clear your mind. Even just a few minutes of deep breathing in a quiet space can help regulate your mood or give you the mental clarity your craving.

Digestive discomfort? Swap the cold coffees and frozen treats during these cooler days for warming, comforting meals like soups, stews, and teas. Spices like ginger and cinnamon, and even eating at the same time each day, can all help keep your digestion in check.
