Creating a Home Meditation Space

Creating a space at home for peaceful meditation time can make it easier to stay consistent in your practice, and be a game-changer for your mental and emotional health. If you don’t already have a dedicated space at home, follow some of these tips to create your own peaceful oasis.

Select Your Spot

You don’t need a large room to create an effective meditation space. A quiet corner or even a spot by the window will do the trick. Try to pick a place where you already feel comfortable, preferably away from distractions like TV or high-traffic areas.

Keep it Simple

The beauty of meditation can be found in its simplicity, the same goes with the space you create. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, or match the pictures you see on Insta. A comfortable cushion or meditation pillow and a soft blanket are often enough to make you feel at ease. Some personal touches like a small plant, journal, crystals, or favorite piece of art can make it feel more meaningful.

Set the Mood

Beyond the visuals, you may want to incorporate other elements to provide a relaxing sensation. Warm-toned lighting, your favorite scents (candles, incense, or essential oils), and calming sounds (gentle music chimes, or sound bowls) can all enhance your meditation experience.

The most important thing is that your space feels inviting and helps you step away from the stresses of everyday life. When you have a place that you enjoy, it removes one of the common barriers to meditation- finding the right place and settling in. Plus, when you return to the same space regularly, it creates a routine that makes it easier for your mind to slip into a relaxed state.

One Final Tip: Don’t be discouraged if your space is small or shared with other members of the household. What matters most is the energy you bring into it. With a few intentional touches, you can create a peaceful retreat right in your own home.
